Of all the wonderfully funny characters Larry David has created over the years, perhaps none has been as original or as fully-realized as the character of Larry David.
This character is so doggedly irascible, and so incapable of showbiz niceties, that his talk show appearances, like his performances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, are often as uncomfortable as they are funny. (Sometimes they're even more uncomfortable than funny.) But when it clicks, it's breathtaking, as in David's Tonight Show appearance last week.
Promoting the upcoming eighth season of Curb -- unenthusiastically, of course -- David harumphed his way through fifteen minutes of sparkling, disgruntled repartee. He is a poet of kvetching. As for Jay Leno, I'm not generally a fan, but he is an ideal foil for Larry David. As the two comedians point out, they are in many ways total opposites.
